LINHART EVZEN
*1898 – 1949
Architect Evžen Linhart belonged, with Jaroslav Fragner, Karel Honzík and Vít Obrtel, to the ‘Purist Four’ in the artistic group Devětsil, who sought inspiration from Le Corbusier’s projects in the journal L´esprit nouveau. The personal residence of Evžen Linhart represents the first Corbusier-styled villa in Prague, and one of the first built manifestations of the ‘Poetistic’ stance of Devětsil. The entire house is covered in smooth white stucco with black-framed windows in the facade, retaining, after Le Corbusier, proportions in the classical golden section.
